Type 2 diabetes and glucose intolerance

In type 2 diabetes, the pancreas is usually producing enough insulin but, for unknown reasons, the body cannot use the insulin effectively. The disease typically occurs, in part, because the cells comprising muscle and other tissues become resistant to insulin's action, especially among the obese. Insulin permits the entry of glucose into most cells, where this sugar is used for energy, stored in the liver and muscles (as glycogen), and converted to fat when present in excess. Insulin resistance leads to higher than normal levels of glucose in the blood (hyperglycemia).

Chromium deficiency impairs the body's ability to use glucose to meet its energy needs and raises insulin requirements. It has therefore been suggested that chromium supplements might help to control type 2 diabetes or the glucose and insulin responses in persons at high risk of developing the disease. A review of randomized controlled clinical trials evaluated this hypothesis This meta-analysis assessed the effects of chromium supplements on three markers of diabetes in the blood: glucose, insulin, and glycated hemoglobin (which provides a measure of long-term glucose levels; also known as hemoglobin A1C). It summarized data from 15 trials on 618 participants, of which 425 were in good health or had impaired glucose tolerance and 193 had type 2 diabetes. Chromium supplementation had no effect on glucose or insulin concentrations in the non-diabetic subjects nor did it reduce these levels in subjects with diabetes, except in one study. However, that study, conducted in China (in which 155 diabetics were given either 200 or 1,000 mcg/day of chromium or a placebo) might simply show the benefits of supplementation in a chromium-deficient population.

Lipid metabolism
The effects of chromium supplementation on blood lipid levels in humans are also inconclusive In some studies, 150 to 1,000 mcg/day has decreased total and low-density-lipoprotein (LDL or "bad") cholesterol and triglyceride levels and increased concentrations of apolipoprotein A (a component of high-density-lipoprotein cholesterol known as HDL or "good" cholesterol) in subjects with atherosclerosis or elevated cholesterol or among those taking a beta-blocker drug These findings are consistent with the results of earlier studies.

Type 2 Diabetes: Foods That Help and Hurt

Some foods can help you control diabetes, while others can spike your blood sugar levels and should be eaten sparingly.

Medically reviewed by Lindsey Marcellin, MD, MPH

Healthy eating is one of the best ways to manage type 2 diabetes. Because this type of diabetes is strongly linked to excess weight, cutting calories and following the right kind of diabetes diet will go a long way toward improving your health.

One of the most important aspects of good nutrition when you have type 2 diabetes is eatingmeals with the right mix of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats to keep blood sugars as normal as possible throughout the day. The next step is choosing among the foods and beverages that can give you an extra edge in managing type 2 diabetes, says dietitian Beth Reardon, MS, RD, an integrative nutritionist and food researcher at Duke University Integrative Medicine in Durham, N.C.
Diabetes Diet: Pre-Germinated Brown Rice
A diabetes diet that includes this healthy whole grain may reduce the risk of developing diabetic neuropathy, which is nerve damage resulting from high blood sugars. Researchers at the Medical College of Georgia found that pre-germinated brown rice protected animals with diabetes from this common complication. To make pre-germinated rice, you soak the rice in warm water overnight before cooking. This stimulates the rice to germinate, producing tiny shoots that are invisible, but contain chemical complexes that appear to be protective against neuropathy.
This rice is also packed with fiber, an important component for diabetes management. “Because fiber takes a long time to digest, sugars are released slowly,” says Reardon. “That helps keep blood sugar levels steady and prevents glucose spikes.”

Diabetes Diet: Oranges and Spinach

In a recent study of men and women ages 40 to 75, those with the most vitamin C in their bodies had the lowest incidence of type 2 diabetes. Oranges and orange juice are the best sources of vitamin C, says Reardon. Other foods with generous amounts of vitamin C are grapefruit, strawberries, and tomatoes. (If you are on a statin drug for high cholesterol, check with your doctor or pharmacist before eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice, as it can cause dangerously increased levels of atorvastatin, lovastatin, and simvastatin.)
When it comes to leafy greens, just one cup of spinach contains 40 percent of your daily value of magnesium, a mineral that can help regulate blood sugar levels — important because people with type 2 diabetes frequently have low levels of magnesium. To get more of this magnesium-rich green veggie into your diet, substitute spinach for lettuce on sandwiches and in salads, suggests Reardon. Not a big fan of spinach? Nuts, beans, and low-fat diary products are also good sources of magnesium.
Diabetes Diet: Low-Fat Milk
Milk is loaded with calcium and vitamin D. This double whammy of essential nutrients may help in your quest to keep type 2 diabetes under control. In a 20-year study of almost 84,000 women, those who consumed the most calcium and vitamin D gained the most protection from type 2 diabetes. Just be sure it’s low-fat — skim or 1 percent milk will control your intake of saturated fats and help prevent weight gain.
Diabetes Diet: Coffee With Cinnamon
Several studies have documented that cinnamon can lower blood sugar levels. But for an even bigger punch of diabetes protection, sprinkle cinnamon in your morning coffee. Coffee consumption has been associated with a lower risk of type 2 diabetes, possibly due to its antioxidant properties. Having both cinnamon and coffee can give you double the ammunition to fight type 2 diabetes.
Diabetes Diet: Curry
A hearty bowl of curry could help control your type 2 diabetes. That’s because turmeric, a spice used in curry, can help prevent the inflammation associated with type 2 diabetes. “Turmeric contains a chemical called curcumin, which is a natural anti-inflammatory that works as well as some anti-inflammatory drugs,” says Reardon. Curry typically contains a heaping helping of turmeric, but you can spice up other dishes with turmeric as well.
Diabetes Diet: Foods to Avoid
It’s just as important to steer clear of foods that can make managing type 2 diabetes more difficult, or at least eat them sparingly. Don’t feast on foods that are high on the glycemic index (GI). This is a system that ranks foods by how they affect blood sugar. High GI foods, such as white rice, doughnuts, soda, and white bread, can cause glucose levels to skyrocket. The same goes for sweets and desserts. “Because these foods are high in carbohydrates, they can cause blood sugar levels to go up considerably,” says Reardon.
That doesn’t mean you can never have a slice of pie or a few cookies. Just be smart about eating foods that can make controlling your type 2 diabetes more challenging. Having a piece of cake with a low-carb meal (such as baked chicken and broccoli) won’t raise glucose levels as much as cake after a big pasta meal.
It’s also wise to watch your alcohol consumption since alcohol adds calories and can cause dips in blood sugar levels. The American Diabetes Association recommends that women limit alcohol to one drink daily and men to two drinks per day.
Managing type 2 diabetes involves paying careful attention to what you eat. If you start with a base of good-for-you foods, building a healthy diet will be that much easier.

Here's the Truth About Curing Your Diabetes!

This whole thing made me sick!

I just found the “World of Medicine” is scamming people – and even worse: with the help of “law-makers!”

It seems that “money” (as usual) has blinded doctors and medical practitioners to the degree that they are now willingly *suppressing* the truth regarding diabetes – its control and even its cure!

That’s right: I said it ... “cure!”

And this should shock you even more:

It seems that it’s against the law to say the word “cure” when describing anything that actually cures you.

Yet it’s very much okay to say that something “treats” or helps “offset” the symptoms of some health condition or disease.

But if you say “cure” (and this even includes when you in fact have a real and bona fide cure for something and can even prove it!) you can get arrested.

Ever wonder why no one ever talks about “curing diabetes”? Everyone seems to be content with finding ways to “control diabetes” or “live with diabetes”. And for good reason.

No one’s out to “cure” anyone because there’s little money in doing so.

Instead, keeping you sick and marginally pain-free is all anyone’s really out to do for you these days – as doing so means you being “forced” to buy all the same drugs over and over again, and again, and ... (you get the point!)
Of course, if a cure came along it would mean you buy it one time, and then you’re cured – and that’s that (over and done!)

Listen, if somebody showed you how to cure diabetes… they wouldn’t make very much money off of you. Right? But if somebody invents a pill or a shot that helps you live with diabetes… they’ll get your money week-after-week, month-after-month, year-after-year until the day you die. Make sense?

In fact, there’s a saying in the drug industry:

Cures Kill Profits!

I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to have to depend on some big drug company to keep me alive and comfortable just so I can give them more of my hard-earned money every month.

I’d much rather take control of my own health and find a way to banish diabetes.

Now a number of doctors, medical scientists and researchers armed with “real answers” and “real solutions” are stepping up and are NOT afraid of “Uncle Big-Bully Brother!”

One courageous fellow by the name of Matt Traverso is doing exactly this!

Not only that, but Matt Traverso has lectured and personally helped individuals beat the disease to the point that proven sufferers have actually gotten re-diagnoses as “no longer having the disease at all!” (Something that’s pretty much always been ruled out as a possibility altogether! – and now which may even be against the law!)

But why don’t we hear about this information from the American Diabetes Association? The truth is, the American Diabetes Association are benefiting hugely from the current trend in diabetes. They are funded by pharmaceutical companies who would lose out if people reversed there diabetic conditions.

The treatment of Diabetes brings in over $10 Million Dollars EVERY SINGLE HOUR of the day to Doctors, Pharmaceutical companies, and testing supply businesses. With that kind of money at stake Big Pharma is going to extreme lengths to silence information about natural cures and alternatives for treating diabetes.

Therefore it’s not certain how long Matt will be allowed to do this because “Uncle Sambo” has actually started using “Gestapo” tactics whereby people and businesses truly offering “cures” have been raided with masked armed police who even go to the point of forcing customers in the stores to get down on the floor at gunpoint!

So, if you’re wise and want to find out about this while it’s still possible for you to do so, then just visit this link

But don’t be surprised if one day soon you return to find this site completely removed with a US Flag waving in its place (in the name of “freedom” no less!)

10 Ways to Boost Your Energy

From everydayhealth.com

Staying hydrated is one way to boost energy, but you don't need to reach for caffeine. Here are natural energy boosters, some as simple as drinking a glass of water or sprinting up a flight of stairs.

Feeling sluggish? Experiencing low energy by midday? Many factors can cause a drain of energy, but there are just as many ways to boost energy levels when you’re feeling foggy and finding it hard to concentrate.
Boost your energy
These 10 natural energy boosters will keep your engine humming throughout the day:
1. Eat an apple. Apples contain natural sugars, which your body can turn into energy. “An apple will have the same effect as a cup of coffee without the side effect of an energy crash,” says Kathi Casey, wellness coach, author, trainer, and owner of Healthy Boomer Body Center in Otis, Mass. “Any kind of apple will do, and there is a wide variety of apples to choose from, so you can pick the one you like best.”
2. Do five or more push-ups. It may seem counterintuitive to exert energy when you’re already tired, Casey says, “but it’s amazing what a couple of push-ups will do for you if you have low energy.” Push-ups get your blood circulating through your body, she explains. Your blood brings oxygen to your brain and your tissues, making you more alert and energetic.
3. Take a power nap. A power nap will help you feel refreshed, says Jini Cicero, a fitness and nutrition expert based in Los Angeles. Between 15 and 30 minutes is best. “You don’t want to get into deep REM sleep, or you’ll be groggy afterward,” says Cicero. “I believe 20 minutes is ideal — just enough to refresh your body’s systems.”
4. Have a cup of green tea. One of the reasons people feel as though they have low energy is that they’re really dehydrated, Cicero says. Staying hydrated is a natural energy booster. “I recommend replenishing your fluids by sipping a cup of green tea or white tea, which is the younger plant of green tea.” Green tea has a small amount of caffeine and white tea even less, but it’s the fluid that will perk you up. Even drinking water can help, Cicero says.
5. Step outside. Sunshine gives you energy because you’re getting vitamin D, and vitamin D can help boost your mood and mental performance. However, keep your face out of the sun and don’t bake — always protect yourself from the sun’s harmful UV rays. Take just 10 to 15 minutes to step outside for some fresh air and sunshine and you’ll go back to work feeling refreshed, Cicero says.
6. Phone a friend. Social connections are another natural energy booster, Cicero says. Studies have shown that people gain enormous amounts of energy from having friends, helping others, and giving of themselves. If you’re feeling down or have low energy, take a few minutes to call someone whose voice will perk you up. Even better, make plans to do something positive for someone else, such as volunteer at a shelter or help an elderly neighbor.
7. Meditate. A mini-meditation break of 5 to 10 minutes can be a great natural energy booster. “There is a lot of clinical evidence that people who meditate are less stressed and have higher energy levels,” says KC Craichy, nutrition and fitness expert in Tampa, Fla., and author ofSuperHealth: 7 Golden Keys to Unlock Lifelong Vitality. Find a quiet place where you can get comfortable. Sit down and concentrate on your breathing. Clear your head and forget about your work or whatever was on your mind. After meditating, get up, stretch, and go back to whatever you were doing, feeling refreshed and more energized.
8. Eat high-energy foods. We’re not talking power bars or energy drinks. While they can provide quick energy, they also can cause you to crash when they wear off, Craichy says. Instead, choose high-energy foods that have essential vitamins and minerals. Vitamins B1, B2, and B6 in particular help your body convert carbohydrates into energy. Foods rich in B vitamins that will work as pick-me-up snacks include yogurt, whole grains, and sunflower seeds. Minerals in nuts, whole grains, and dairy products also enhance energy by assisting metabolism.
9. Take the stairs. Like doing push-ups, a quick flight up the stairs in your office building will provide aerobic exercise and help you feel more energetic, Casey says. Exercise not only helps your body function better, it also increases the amount of oxygen in your blood and causes your heart to beat faster, which increases blood flow to your muscles and back to your lungs. Exercise also releases endorphins, hormone-like substances that promote an increased sense of well-being.
10. Stop multitasking. “People are really doing themselves a disservice by trying to do too much at once,” Casey says. “You’re causing way too much stress on yourself and you’re not able to focus as well as you could were you to give each task your undivided attention.” If you do yourday’s activities one at a time, you can devote more energy to each one. It will make you feel as though you have more energy overall.
Most of these natural energy boosters are easy to work into your day. They take 10 to 15 minutes at most, and the benefits can last for hours.

How to Defeat Diabetes Even With a Sweet Tooth

By Julia Hanf

I wanted to share the following article that I wrote. It gives some great information on one approach to fighting diabetes. I believe that if we sometimes don't stop and ask the question why, we can do more harm than good.

[Article written by Julia Hanf author of the book How to Play the Diabetes Diet Game and Win.

How To Defeat Diabetes Even If You Have a Sweet Tooth

An overweight America may be fixated on fat and obsessed with carbohydrates, but nutritionists say the real problem is much sweeter -- we're awash in sugar. Sugar is one of the main factors that contribute to diabetes. With diabetes growing at an incredible rate there are many different views on treating diabetes. In 2007 the amount of sugar being consumed grew exponentially. Did you know that the average American consumes 63 pounds of sugar a year? The issue is not that we consume sugar, but it is the amount of sugar we consume without even realizing it. For example a can of soda contains 13 teaspoons of sugar. People have turned to artificial sweeteners as an alternative to sugar.

Aspartame (NutraSweet) is produced from two amino acids, aspartic acid and phenylalanine and is 180 times sweeter than sucrose. If you are currently using aspartame please pay close attention to the following. Studies have shown that Aspartame, an artificial sweetener commonly put into processed foods and diet soft drinks is a very dangerous chemical. Also known as NutraSweet, Equal, and Spoonful (methanol) which coverts to formic acid (formic acid is the poison found in the sting of fire ants), which in turn causes metabolic acidosis when heated above 86F. The methanol toxicity mimics other conditions such as multiple sclerosis, tinnitus and systemic lupus, especially among Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi Drinkers.

If you are using ASPARTAME and you suffer from fibromyalgia symptoms, spasms, shooting pains, numbness in your legs, cramps, vertigo, dizziness, headaches, tinnitus, joint pain, depression, anxiety attacks, slurred speech, blurred vision, or memory loss you probably have ASPARTAME DISEASE! Diet
Coke and Diet Pepsi, etc. ARE NOT DIET PRODUCTS! The Congressional Record states that they make you crave carbohydrates and will make you FAT. The formaldehyde found in aspartame is stored in your fat cells, particularly in the hips and thighs.

The only reason that it continues to be promoted is that the companies that have patented this drug have very deep pockets. There are companies making literally millions of dollars selling aspartame. There has been clinical studies that have evidence that aspartame not only causes you to become fat but it also responsible for a plague of neurological diseases. If you are still not convinced by what I have mentioned PLEASE do some reading and find out for yourself the implications of consuming this deadly poison.

In my research I have found that there is one alternative that may be step above all the rest. This is a NATURAL herb called Stevia. Stevia is derived from a South American shrub (Stevia rebaudiana).

A good quality leaf is estimated to be 300 times sweeter than cane sugar, or sucrose. Also known as honey leaf and yerba dulce, stevia is not absorbed through the digestive tract, and is therefore non-caloric. This is a huge find for a person with diabetes. Stevia is not only a natural substitute for sugar but it also carries medicinal properties. Preliminary evidence suggests that it may lower blood pressure, prevent or reverse diabetes and possess anti-viral properties. Many people ask me "why have I not heard of this before". The
answer although much to vast to cover in this article, attributes many of these natural remedies not being told to the public due to the monetization of big companies that focus on nothing but maximizing profits.

I hope that you have found this information very valuable, this was a key component for my husband on his way to living diabetes free.

Warmest regards.
